Ingredients:
1 Small Red Onion (Pyaz) - small chopped
2 Medium Tomatoes (Tamatar) - small chopped
1 English Cucumber (Kakri)* - small chopped
1 Cup Daikon Radish (Mooli) - peeled and small chopped
¼ Cup [packed] Fresh Coriander Leaves (Dhania Patta)** - chopped
¼ tsp Cumin Powder (Jeera Podi) OR Garam Masala
Juice of 1 Lemon (Nimbu Ras) or to taste
Fresh Ground Black Pepper (Kali Mirch) to taste
Kosher Salt (Namak) to taste
-OPTIONAL-
2 Tbs Fresh Mint (Pudina Patta) - chopped fine
1 Fresh Green Chile (Hari Mirch) - seeded and minced
¼ - ½ tsp Red Chile Powder (Lal Mirchi)
Preparation:
- Make sure that you chop your onion, tomato, cucumber, and radish into similar sized pieces
- Place all of the vegetables in a large bowl and gently mix to combine
- Add the lemon juice, black pepper, salt, and cumin or garam masala (if using) and, again, gently mix to combine
- Adjust seasoning to taste
- Serve chilled or at room temperature as part of your favorite Indian meal OR use it as a substitute for coleslaw, use it as a topping for burgers, tacos, or any sandwich or wrap, mix it with yogurt to make a wonderful, chilled dip, or anything you can imagine - the possibilities are endless!
