1 lb Green Beans (Phalas) - 'French Cut' - can substitute frozen NOT canned
4 Small Shallots (Gradana) - diced
2-3 Tbs Cooking Oil - can use extra virgin, vegetable, canola, or peanut oil
1 ½ tsp Kosher Salt (Namak) - or to taste
1 tsp Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
½ tsp Red Chile Powder (Lal Mirchi)
⅛ tsp
Garam Masala
-OPTIONAL-
¼ Cup Dried Unsweetened Shredded Coconut (Nariyal)
Preparation:
IF USING - Place coconut in food processor equipped with chopping blade and pulse a few times - Set aside
Heat oil in a large pan or skillet with a tight fitting lid over medium heat
Once oil is hot, add shallots and sauté until golden brown (apx 4 minutes) stirring occasionally
Add green beans and cook covered for 10-15 minutes stirring occasionally
Uncover and add remaining ingredients (including coconut if using) and continue to cook (uncovered) for an additional 10-15 minutes stirring frequently
Green beans should be dark green and tender - They will reduce in size considerably
